What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A comprehensive plan looks to the future, typically 10-20 years. The plan identifies where and how a community should grow based on a community-defined vision and assessment of past and current development patterns. The comprehensive plan will assess a variety of community characteristics, including land use, transportation, infrastructure, public facilities, and economic development. For each of these elements, the comprehensive plan will answer questions such as: What do we want the future of Jarrell to look like? What changes are needed to achieve the future vision? What partnerships can be formed to achieve the goal? This community-defined vision will allow city staff and elected officials to make coordinated and sound decisions that benefit the entire community.
How Can You be Involved?
Public and stakeholder engagement is critical to the formation of the overall vision for the plan. There are many opportunities to be involved, including online surveys, community events, and other public meetings with the advisory committee and elected officials. A Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee (CPAC) made up of Jarrell stakeholders and residents has been created to serve as a sounding board throughout the plan process.
